Ma Yanling app for iPhone and iPad

The App contains photographs of Ma Yanling’s artworks since 2005, including those that have been shown for many times on international exhibitions and those been collected by notable artistic organizations and collectors.

This App also contains reviews and interview articles from two critics and one by artist himself, in which Ma has made a vivid depiction of her artistic experience as well as featured interpretation of her own artistic creation and concept.

This App presents photographs of Ma at her sole exhibition, at her studio as well as in life.

Ma Yanlings Artworks Show:
- Ma Yanling has been working on two different ends in her art creation, one socialized, towards the outside world, with a slight tendency to violence; the other one is more contained, cultivated as a za-zen meditation.
- Ma Yanling’s style of a complex grid doesn’t highlight the visual results, but rather emphasizes the whole drawing process; and more importantly, this very process seems to have a life of its own, just as life itself flows. As Confucius said, standing by a stream: “It flows endlessly, day and night.” So what artists like her emphasize is time, it is as though their life was “worn out” by their simple and repetitive work, as if every line, every check on the work was like a moment of life, day after day, year after year, endlessly repeating itself, flowing away. This is the expression of a living experiment rather than a concept.
- She uses the classical Chinese painting line drawing to cover these faces with a fine gauze veil, just like time casts dust on our memories. Thus, the point of her brush becomes like a clock, each stroke producing a line, weaving a time web, and “freezing” an instant of the “Years of blossoming”.
